About Us

At Saint Peter's University Hospital we know that children are special people. We also know that when your special little person is sick or injured, you want the best health care possible. At The Children's Hospital at Saint Peter's, we take pride in providing the most advanced and comprehensive pediatric health care available.

Children and infants need the specialized care and attention that only doctors, nurses, and other health professionals trained in pediatrics can give. This means that a child who arrives at Saint Peter's Emergency Department is treated in an emergency room designed and equipped just for children. It means that a child who undergoes surgery receives anesthesia from an anesthesiologist with years of training in pediatric medicine. And it means that even the tiniest baby can grow up healthy and strong, thanks to round-the-clock services provided by our neonatologists and neonatal intensive care nurses.

The Children's Hospital works in concert with your child's physician to ensure that care is coordinated between the doctor's office and the hospital. Our Children's Hospital works closely with pediatricians and family practitioners in the community and is proud to have the support of over 150 general pediatricians and pediatric specialists who have privileges at Saint Peter's. As a major teaching hospital, Saint Peter's provides physicians with access to the latest clinical research and state-of-the-art treatment modalities.

Saint Peter's currently sponsors a quality graduate medical education program. Our pediatric residents will serve a rotation through our new clinical affiliate, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, ranked the best pediatric hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for five consecutive years (2003-2007).

In support of our mission to provide quality medical education, Saint Peter's University Hospital is affiliated with Drexel University College of Medicine, the largest private medical school in the nation and a leader in health science education and research, located in Philadelphia, PA. Third- and fourth-year medical students from Drexel University will serve a rotation through Saint Peter's. Drexel University is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of America's top doctoral universities.

Drexel University College of Medicine serves as Saint Peter's university sponsor for our pediatric residency program and our teaching faculty enjoy Drexel University College of Medicine faculty privileges. The academic affiliation provides a forum for advancing clinical research, education and technology, as well as fulfilling a shared mission of focusing on outreach for the underserved and indigent population.

Saint Peter's and Drexel University initially joined forces in 2003, along with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), to form the Medical Technology Center for Infants and Children, the first biomedical technology center in the region geared specifically for infants and children.

Saint Peter's University Hospital has long been recognized as New Jersey's leading healthcare center for infants and children. We are one of only eight children's hospitals and one of only eight regional perinatal centers in the state. We are the only hospital in central New Jersey designated by the state to serve both seriously ill children and high-risk newborns. And we are a certified Magnet hospital for nursing excellence as well as a member of the exclusive Council of Women's and Infants' Specialty Hospitals (C-WISH).

The Children's Hospital at Saint Peter's cares for more children and babies than any other children's hospital in central New Jersey. And we strive to make sure your child's stay is comfortable and successful. More than 9,000 children are hospitalized at Saint Peter's every year, and more than 45,000 seek care in our emergency and outpatient facilities annually. Saint Peter's recently established a Cardiac Center, in affiliation with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia that specializes in monitoring and treating cardiac abnormalities in infants and children.

From the prenatal period to delivery, from your toddler's first steps to the last of his baby teeth, from middle school through high school, Saint Peter's is always here for your child.
